Form to Material

Assessment 6 Week 6

Given word: Flow

Materials: acrylic, chalk pastel, watercolour, crayon, watercolour paper, leaves, plywood

I explored a few possibilities to express the word flow, particularly ideas that linked to my previous works which often had a water related theme.

Final Artwork

Reflection

Exploring possible artwork relating to the word 'Flow' was very interesting, I created a mindmap off all the words and concepts relating to the word before narrowing down the most comprehensive ones.

My final artwork demonstrated the flow of a circular ribbon shape, every aspect of the artwork changes except the ribbon which is constant and complete.

Changing variables:

- canvas

- colour

- medium

This approach to depicting the word "flow" conveyed my thoughts on the word, how a true flow is something that exists despite disturbances, something that is constant and unwavering even if it is changed.

The final product was not secured in place, it lay on the bench top positioned for each canvas to line up.

After a week, the leaves had dried up and curled, changing and breaking the flow.

Although the flow was technically broken, it still looked visually rhythmical and consistent. The curled leaves added a diverse movement to the canvas aspect of the artwork and created an aesthetically interesting disturbance in the "flow".
