Material Change

Assessment 5 Week 5

A revision of the 3hr artwork, creating another artwork along the same themes but with a medium that completely contradicts the original medium used.

My 3hr artwork was a carved wooden sculpture of an eel, so I reimagined it as a 2D watercolour painting of an eel in the style of a scientific specimen painting.

Reflection

Since my 3hr artwork was a 3D sculpture, the clear opposite was a 2D painting. However to continue the links to my subject (the river eel) I decided to paint it out of watercolours.

The chosen style of a scientific specimen painting is one that I am personally interested in exploring, I accentuated this by adding a date stamp as well as the scientific and colloquial name for the Pike Eel.

As this was a continuation of the 3hr artwork, I was aware of the length of time taken to complete the painting. Including the time allowed for layers of watercolour to dry before continuing the painting, this artwork took 4 hours to complete. However, the total time I spent actively engaged with the artwork was closer to 3 hours.
