Reflection

While making this audio I experimented with the variety of sounds that were made during the making process of my 3hr artwork. I also considered the meaning and imagery attached to the artwork itself, such as the Maiwar river and the movement of an eel through water.

To combine the elements of material, process, and meaning, I composed a minute long audio using tools used in the making process in a rhythmical way.

The entire piece has a constant clicking sound of wood chips being carved off the main block, while various other sounds compile on top of it.

The crescendo or climax of the audio features the slow heaving sounds of a hand saw. Intended to replicate the sounds of laboured breathing, the hand saw adds a dramatic tension to the audio while also evoking the effort and labour that goes into carving sculptures. The rhythmical breath of the hand saw is simultaneously suggestive of water movements, the ebb and flow of tide and waves dragging themselves into shore lines time after time.
